Dubya World Vet Motocross Championships
Logo + Event Graphics
A world-class foundation for a world-class event
Overview
The Dubya World Vet Motocross Championships is an annual motorcycle race held at the renowned Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, California. Started by Tom White back in 1984, it was a premier 1 day race. Over 30 years later, the event has grown to host over 1300 racers, from over 20 countries, to compete for 4 days of action. The grueling circuit boasts long 3 minute lap times across rough terrain with steep 22-story hills, huge jumps and top speeds that reach 70 mph.
Objective
The event has grown from its humble beginnings. It has evolved into a true world championship in every sense, and for 2014 Dubya USA would take over the race as the title sponsor. To celebrate the event’s growth and it’s 30th anniversary, Dubya wanted to re-brand. We needed to level up the branding to feel more like the world-class event it had become.
Challenge
Dubya wanted to capture the feel of the time when the event first launched in 1984 – to visually pay homage to some of the most important years in the history of motocross.
Outcome
We designed a new logo that showcased an iconic 80’s open face helmet/goggle setup. Classic typography, a knobby tire, and other graphic elements provide the nostalgic authenticity and the fresh visual impact we needed. The logo is updated and modified annually for event stickers, making them collectible to race participants. The giant banner really hits you and sets the tone for the race when looking down the starting line.
